TQ4400 Marine Approved Gas Detector

TQ4400 Marine Approved Gas Detector

The TQ4400 Pump room sampling system is a multipoint, sequential, aspirated gas sampling system that complies with IMO/SOLAS requirements and classification rules for monitoring ‘Void Spaces’ on Gas Carriers and Oil & Gas Tankers near the cargo areas. The primary function of the TQ4400 Pump room sampling system is to extract gas samples from desired locations and transport them through lines to an analyzing unit. This unit monitors the samples for the presence of ‘Flammable’, ‘Toxic’, and ‘Oxygen’ gases. The system utilizes fixed gas sensor heads, solenoids, and a pump to create a cost-effective sampling solution. It is important to note that the TQ4400 Pump room sampling system should not be considered the primary safety measure for personnel within the Pump room. For the safety of personnel in confined spaces, it is recommended to use portable personal handheld devices as the primary protection.

The TQ4400 system allows for up to 8 locations to be monitored. If more locations need to be monitored, the TQ4400 Ballast tank monitoring system should be used instead. In terms of alarm functionality, the TQ4400 provides individual ‘low’ and ‘high’ alarm outputs for each installed gas sensor, along with corresponding alarm relays. This enables integration with alarm management systems, remote mimic panels, and audible/visual warning devices. The TQ4400 unit is mounted within a cabinet and features an operator interface consisting of four push buttons and a backlit LCD. During normal operation, the LCD display provides information about the gas type and sample concentration for each individual location.

The TQ4400 Pump room sampling system incorporates a standard Analyzing Unit housed in a wall-mounted enclosure with a front panel Display Unit. This enclosure contains all the necessary electrical, electronic, and pneumatic equipment for monitoring, displaying, controlling, and providing alarm outputs for the relevant locations. The system can be divided into several main components. Pneumatics play a crucial role, with each Sample Line connected to an external ‘Shut-off Valve’ for sample line isolation. The sample then passes through a flame arrestor and enters the Analyzing Unit. Pneumatic devices such as solenoid valves, particulate filters, a pump, a flow detector, and leak detection systems are present within the unit.

Sensors are an integral part of the TQ4400 system. There are two types utilized: infrared sensors (GD 129NI) and electro-chemical sensors. Infrared sensors measure the absorption of infrared light by target hydrocarbon gases and provide a 4-20mA signal for their respective concentrations. Electro-chemical sensors, on the other hand, monitor Oxygen and Toxic gases, also offering a 4-20mA signal. The Control & Display Unit is responsible for monitoring the signals from each gas detector, controlling the solenoids sequentially, and analyzing the gas samples. The display unit shows the current system status, including information such as gas type, concentration, and fault alarms.

To ensure a continuous power supply to the Analyzing Unit, the system incorporates a Power Supply Change Over Unit. This unit enables automatic changeover between the ship’s ‘Main’ and ‘Emergency’ power supplies. Additionally, it includes a TQ126F controller that monitors the system’s ‘Leak Detection’ gas detector. Sample Line Accessories are available as optional equipment to suit different sample locations. These include end-of-line filters for dry areas, in-line filters, and various types of filter elements that can be periodically replaced or cleaned.

The TQ4400 system offers various outputs for convenient integration with other systems. It features volt-free change-over relay contacts for common concentration alarms (low and high) and system fault alarms. Additionally, it provides 24VDC outputs specifically designed for common concentration alarms, typically used for connecting beacons and sounders.

With its comprehensive components and functionalities, the TQ4400 Pump room sampling system ensures efficient gas monitoring and control.
