General

The Sales and Procurement department is critical for Mr. Marine’s success. Our customer base consists of ship owners and ship management companies situated across all continents. The Director Sales and Procurement is responsible for all sales for direct spares deliveries to customers and to support service jobs on board sea-going vessels all over the world. The Director Sales & Procurement is also responsible for procurement of spares including vendor selection, negotiations and contracting. Inventory management, warehousing and inbound and outbound logistics are also part of the responsibilities. Besides the operational responsibilities, the Director Sales & Procurement is also responsible for the optimization of logistics processes, systems and organisation, and integration and harmonisation of sales & procurement from newly acquired companies.

The Director will lead international teams of Sales & Procurement Specialists, and Warehouse Operators that are located in various international maritime hubs. The Director Sales & Procurement will report to the Chief Operating Officer. You will be working from our Rotterdam office.

Job Description

The Director Sales and Procurement will be responsible for:

  • Procurement and inbound logistics of Marine spare parts for all Mr. Marine business lines.
  • Sales and delivery of Marine spare parts to Mr. Marine customers.
  • Delivery of marine spare parts to Inspection and Certification Service jobs executed by Mr. Marine on board sea-going vessels.
  • Inventory availability at Mr. Marine hubs to ensure optimal service levels of spare part deliveries to external customers and to provide service jobs executed by Mr. Marine in all ports.
  • Definition and implementation of the optimal procurement strategy including sourcing of vendors, negotiation of prices and delivery conditions and setting up contracts with preferred suppliers.
  • Definition and implementation of the optimal inventory strategy including inventory policy and international warehouse structure.
  • Warehouse management of all warehouses in all Mr. Marine hubs.
  • Support the Project Management organisation with information about spare part specs, prices, delivery times and availability.
  • Optimization of processes and systems (SAP B1).
  • Integration and harmonisation of the spare part portfolio of newly acquired companies.
  • Integration and optimization of processes, systems and organisation of newly acquired companies.
  • Team management:
    • Day-to-day management of the international team of Team Leaders, Sales & Procurement Specialists and Warehouse Operators.
    • Recruiting and retention.
    • Career development and employee satisfaction of the Sales & Procurement team.
  • The most important operational KPIs for the Director Sales & Procurement are revenue, margin and delivery reliability.

Job Requirements

Function requirements

  • Second-level university degree in (Marine) Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Management Science, Logistics Control Systems or equivalent studies.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience with spare part logistics; experience with logistics in the maritime sector is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in (spare part) logistics.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the technicalities of marine elevators and or marine instruments is preferred.
  • Excellent reading and writing skills in English, plus a second relevant language.
  • Excellent commercial awareness.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to achieving high standards within limited resources.
