General

This position of Technical Manager is for the Safety & Environment business line within Mr. Marine. The Safety & Environment business line of Mr. Marine focuses on Testing, Inspection, Certification, Service and Spares for Safety & Environmental systems on board sea-going vessels such as Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS), Oil Discharge Monitoring Equipment (ODME), Gas Detection systems, Tank Level Measurement, O2 Analyzers, Oil Mist Detection, Temperature & Pressure Calibrators, UTI Detectors, etc.

The Technical manager will be responsible for managing and providing technical support to Mr. Marine’s team of Field Engineers, Project Managers, Account Managers and partners. The focus of this role is to support business activities as a technical expert, as well as assist in troubleshooting, modernisation and root cause analysis activities. The Technical Manager will be reporting to the Technical Director for Safety & Environment.

Job Description

  • Provide technical support to project managers, sales engineers, account managers, and field engineers.
  • Responsible for management and development of all technical services staff and all payroll field engineers for Safety & Environment following the guidance of the Technical Director Safety & Environment:
    • Guide/provide work direction to all Safety & Environment Engineers;
    • Give training and coaching to all Engineers;
    • Allocate jobs and Evaluate all Safety & Environment Engineers Mentor and train the team of Engineers;
    • Provide day-to-day leadership to Engineers and Support Engineers, holding them accountable to expectations and for KPI results;
    • Recruiting and retention of all payroll Safety & Environment Engineers.
  • Responsible for the implementation and compliance with policies and procedures for the field services, Quality and HSE in the Safety & Environment operations following the guidance of the Technical Director Safety & Environment:
    • Responsible for implementation and day-to-day compliance with QHSE and quality standards (ISO9001-2015) by the Safety & Environment technical staff;
    • Working with internal teams and suppliers/partners to minimise defects and cost of poor quality. Execute continuous improvement processes to improve processes and procedures;
    • Evaluate and analyse quality issues/complaints and introduce corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage and support all aspects of modernisations and bigger/more complex repair jobs such as design, estimation, quotation, material procurement, customisation, assembly, supply and installation.
  • Serves as a technical expert representative across teams, clients and supports the operations, spares, sales & marketing teams in technical matters related to Safety & Environment.
  • Updating the library of all relevant rules and regulations of Flag states, Class, and makers.
  • Onboard new Engineers to the technical Safety & Environment team.
  • Work with the HR department to recruit, interview, select, hire, and onboard new field engineers.
  • Participation in the out-of-hours service technical support rotation.

Job Requirements

Function requirements

  • Minimum a first level university degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience with marine electrical instruments.
  • Minimum 3 years of management experience.
  • Excellent reading and writing skills in English, plus a second relevant language.
  • Significant experience in instruments installation, maintenance, and modernisation with a sound knowledge of current standards and regulations.
  • Extensive technical skills and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to achieving high standards within limited resources.
  • An awareness and experience of managing and following up Health and Safety regulations and processes
