About Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is the most important traditional holiday in China. The celebration typically lasts for 15 days, beginning on the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar and ending with the Lantern Festival. The Chinese lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, so the date of Chinese New Year changes each year. This year, Chinese New Year falls on January 22 and marks the start of the Year of the Rabbit.
The celebration of Chinese New Year is steeped in tradition and symbolism. Red decorations, lanterns, and banners are commonly used to decorate homes and streets, as red is believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck. Fireworks are also a big part of the celebration, as they are believed to scare away evil spirits and bring good luck.
