Farah Shaik (Singaporean) has many years of experience in HR, administrative work, and Supply Chain Management. Most of her previous employers operate in the oil, gas, and shipping industry; she understands the business very well. Farah manages Mr. Marine SEA; the Singaporean subsidiary of Mr. Marine.

We asked Farah a few questions about herself:

1. What do you like most about working at Mr. Marine?

What I like most about working at Mr. Marine is the people who truly make it an exceptional place to be. Each individual is valued and their unique perspectives and contributions are highly regarded. It’s an environment where everyone’s opinion matters, creating a feeling of inclusion and collaboration. The supportive nature of the company is truly commendable. 2. What is your greatest achievement at work?

One of my greatest achievements at work has been navigating through the challenges posed by the pandemic alongside my team and still achieving remarkable results. Despite the unprecedented circumstances and disruptions, we remained resilient, adaptable, and focused on delivering exceptional value to our customers. The pandemic presented us with numerous obstacles, from remote work setups to supply chain disruptions and changing customer needs. However, we embraced these challenges as opportunities to innovate and find new ways to serve our customers effectively. Through collaborative efforts and determination, we were able to maintain our commitment to delivering high-quality products and services. Our ability to swiftly adapt to the changing landscape demonstrated our agility and problem-solving skills. We implemented creative solutions to overcome logistical hurdles, leveraging technology to bridge physical distances and ensure seamless communication with both our team members and customers. This adaptability allowed us to continue providing the same level of support and assistance our customers have come to expect from us.

3. What motivates you?

What motivates me is the remarkable ability of our company to operate around the clock in the demanding and fast-paced marine industry. It’s truly impressive to witness the dedication and perseverance of our team, who work tirelessly to ensure that our operations run smoothly day in and day out. The fact that we never sleep, figuratively speaking, speaks volumes about our commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction. Our motto, which encapsulates our company’s values and work ethic, is a constant source of inspiration for me. It serves as a reminder of the high standards we strive to uphold in everything we do. It drives me to push myself beyond my limits, continuously seeking ways to improve and excel in my role. The relentless pursuit of excellence fuels my motivation to deliver the best possible outcomes for our customers. Furthermore, I take immense pride in being part of a company that values diversity and inclusion. Each day brings new and unique problems to solve, and it is incredible to collaborate with talented individuals from around the world to find solutions. The nature of our work allows us to continuously expand our knowledge and skills. With every challenge we encounter, we delve into uncharted territory, researching, analysing, and brainstorming together to find the best possible outcomes. This process of problem-solving not only helps us deliver exceptional results to our customers but also enables us to expand our own capabilities and expertise. The global aspect of our team adds a special dynamic to our work. Working with colleagues from different countries and cultures brings a wealth of diverse perspectives and approaches to the table. It opens our minds to new ideas, encourages cross-cultural understanding, and enhances our ability to tackle challenges from multiple angles. The shared sense of purpose and collaboration across borders creates a stimulating work environment.

5. What is the best work advice you have ever received?

The best work advice I have ever received is to express my ideas and speak up confidently. This invaluable advice has had a profound impact on my professional growth and development. By sharing my thoughts, insights, and suggestions, I not only contribute to the collective intelligence of the team but also demonstrate my commitment and passion for my work. Speaking up and expressing my ideas conveys a sense of ownership and dedication to my role. It shows that I genuinely care about the success of the projects and initiatives we undertake. Moreover, speaking up allows me to contribute my unique perspective and insights to the decision-making process. 6. What are your future career plans (goals)?

In terms of my future career plans and goals, my primary aim is to play a pivotal role in expanding the business in Singapore and throughout the Southeast Asia region. I am excited about the prospects of being part of this evolution and contributing to the success and development of our organisation. Expanding the business in Singapore and SEA offers tremendous opportunities for both personal and professional growth. It involves not only reaching new markets and customers but also building strong partnerships and networks in the region. I am eager to immerse myself in the diverse business landscape, understand the local dynamics, and leverage my skills and expertise to drive our firm’s expansion. Being part of this growth presents exciting challenges and requires staying ahead of market trends, emerging technologies, and evolving customer needs. It calls for adaptability, strategic thinking, and the ability to seize opportunities in a rapidly changing business environment. I am committed to continuously developing my skills, broadening my knowledge base, and staying in the lead of the curve to effectively contribute to the success of our expansion efforts.
