Klaas Minnema

Senior Controller

Klaas Minnema (Dutch) joined Mr. Marine in May 2023 as a Senior Controller. He holds a remarkable educational background, with an MSc in Business Administration from Erasmus University, and a RA post-master from Maastricht University/ VU Amsterdam and University of Florida. Before joining the Mr. Marine team, Klaas gained invaluable experience in his role as Auditor at Deloitte for 8 years. He loves travelling and visiting sports events, usually football or cycling-related.

We asked Klaas a few questions about himself:

1. What do you like most about working at Mr. Marine?

Working at Mr. Marine is an absolute joy for several reasons. Firstly, the culture here is incredibly open and supportive. Being part of a young, dynamic team in an organization that thrives on innovation and continuous improvement is invigorating. What’s truly fascinating is the global aspect – interacting with customers and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, enriching the internal environment with a myriad of perspectives and experiences.

2. What is your greatest achievement at work?

Among my achievements, one that stands out is the rapid integration into the team and subsequently initiating several improvements, particularly in our reporting structures and operational processes. It’s fulfilling to contribute in ways that streamline and enhance our workflow.

3. What motivates you?

The dynamism of Mr. Marine is a great motivator for me. Every day unfolds with new challenges, offering continuous opportunities for learning and growth. Witnessing the company’s rapid evolution and being an integral part of that journey is incredibly exciting and keeps me highly motivated.

4. What do you love most about what you do?

The combination of working with numbers and people. I feel that at Mr. Marine I can add value to the business and investors by providing the right set of data and insights for decision making. And on the other hand collaboration with people from all different kind of backgrounds and skillsets. 

5. What is the best work advice you have ever received?

Do the things that give you energy and eliminate things that de-energize. And foremost always keep learning. You are never done learning. 

6. What was the most valuable lesson you learned while working at Mr. Marine?

One invaluable lesson I’ve learned here is the importance of seeking support when uncertain. At Mr. Marine, there’s always a supportive network available, eager to assist and offer fresh perspectives. This experience has emphasized the significance of seeking help when needed and the pitfalls of delaying tasks.

7. What are your future career plans (goals)?

Create a finance department that supports the Mr. Marine’s business and works like a well-oiled machine, and at the same time make it a great place to work.
