Valcom T72 Series Submersible Level Sensors

Valcom T72 Series Submersible Level Sensors

The VALCOM T72 series is a range of submersible electronic level sensors designed for hydrostatic pressure sensing in marine applications. These sensors feature a 4 ÷ 20 mA output and utilize the HART® digital communication protocol. Each sensor is individually calibrated with its own seal, ensuring accurate measurements. The configuration and adjustments of the sensors can be conveniently made remotely using HART® protocol compatible communicators. With a supply range of 12.5 ÷ 30 Vdc, the T72 series sensors provide a reliable and continuous output signal. They offer alarm values at 3.85 mA and 21 mA, allowing for immediate detection of critical levels.

The sensors have a maximum load capacity of 220 Ω to 600 Ω (HART®). With an impressive total accuracy of less than 0.20% FS (-25 ÷ 0°C) and less than 0.07% FS (0 ÷ 80°C), these sensors ensure precise measurements in varying temperature conditions. The T72 series sensors boast excellent response time, with a polling time of approximately 800 ms and a measured value update frequency of around 1 second. They also offer a high allowable de-range capability, allowing measurements up to 30 times the nominal range. The sensors are built to withstand harsh marine environments, with an ingress protection degree of IP68 and compliance with vibration and humidity standards.

The VALCOM T72 series submersible level sensors are specifically engineered to meet the demands of the marine industry. Designed for hydrostatic pressure sensing, these sensors provide accurate and reliable measurements of liquid levels in various marine applications.

One of the notable features of the T72 series sensors is their 4 ÷ 20 mA output and HART® digital communication protocol. This combination allows for seamless integration with control systems and offers real-time monitoring of level data. The sensors are individually calibrated along with their own seal, ensuring optimal accuracy and performance. Moreover, the remote configurability using HART® protocol compatible communicators simplifies the setup process and enables adjustments without physical access to the sensors. The T72 series sensors have a supply range of 12.5 ÷ 30 Vdc, enabling compatibility with common power sources found in marine environments. The 4 ÷ 20 mA output signal provides a continuous and proportional representation of the liquid level. With alarm values set at 3.85 mA and 21 mA, the sensors can trigger immediate alerts when critical levels are reached, allowing for swift response and preventive actions.

In terms of accuracy, the T72 series sensors excel in different temperature ranges. They offer a total accuracy of less than 0.20% FS (-25 ÷ 0°C) and less than 0.07% FS (0 ÷ 80°C), ensuring precise measurements even in varying thermal conditions. The sensors also feature a measured value update frequency of approximately 1 second for the 4 ÷ 20 mA + Hart® output and a faster response time of about 500 ms for Hart® communication (on request). This quick response enables real-time monitoring of level changes, facilitating efficient decision-making and control. The T72 series sensors exhibit excellent resilience in challenging marine environments. They can withstand temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C (T6, T85°C) or -40°C to +75°C (T5, T100°C), depending on the temperature class. With a process temperature range of -10°C to +80°C and a storage temperature range of -40°C to +90°C, the sensors can operate reliably under extreme conditions. The ingress protection degree of IP68 ensures their robustness against dust and water immersion, making them suitable for submersion in water bodies, tanks, and bilge compartments.

Furthermore, the T72 series sensors comply with various regulatory directives, ensuring their suitability for marine applications. They meet the requirements of ATEX (Directive 2014/34/EU) for hazardous areas, making them safe to use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The sensors are classified as II 1G Ex ia IIC T6, T5 Ga and II 2G Ex ia IIC T6, T5 Gb under the ATEX directive. They also adhere to the PED (Directive 2014/68/EU) for fluid categories and EMC (Directive 2014/30/EU) for electromagnetic compatibility. This compliance guarantees that the sensors meet the necessary safety and performance standards for their marine applications.

The T72 series sensors have achieved functional safety SIL2 certification, ensuring their reliability and integrity in critical environments. They offer a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) of SIL2 and a Safe Failure Fraction (SFF) of 76.67%. The Probability of Dangerous Failure per Hour (PFH) is calculated to be 8.6644∙10-8, which indicates a low probability of failures. The sensors also have a Diagnostic Coverage (DC) of 82.9%, indicating the effectiveness of their diagnostic capabilities in detecting and preventing potential faults. As a testament to their quality and adherence to marine industry standards, the T72 series sensors have obtained marine type approval from DNV GL, a leading classification society. This approval signifies that the sensors have undergone rigorous testing and verification to ensure compliance with the applicable requirements and standards of the marine industry.

In marine applications, the VALCOM T72 series sensors find extensive use in monitoring and controlling liquid levels. They are suitable for various tasks such as measuring fuel levels in tanks, monitoring ballast systems in ships, assessing water levels in reservoirs, and managing bilge compartments on vessels. The submersible design of the sensors allows them to be deployed directly into liquid environments, ensuring accurate measurements even in challenging conditions. Their ability to withstand harsh marine environments, combined with their precision, remote configurability, and compliance with industry regulations, makes the T72 series sensors a reliable choice for marine professionals seeking accurate and efficient level sensing solutions.
